Nutritional Help for Gluten Intolerance and Coeliacs
Could you Be sensitive to Gluten?
Many coeliac’s will experience mysterious and wide-ranging symptoms, starting from an early age. Interestingly however, we’ve identified that a cohort of people who are non-coeliac’s, experience surprisingly similar symptoms and corresponding improvement from gluten.
Whether you have coeliac or not, symptoms are often vague enough, or life-long enough that the person may become ‘blind’ to them occurring. If you’ve had symptoms your whole life - how can you know it’s not normal?
Over the decades, we’ve compiled useful lists and information of the wide ranging and ‘mysterious’ symptoms. Some may surprise you, such as headaches, anxiety, chronic constipation - and fibromyalgia type symptoms.
Client Question;
I have IBS type symptoms and feel worse when I eat gluten - could I be affected?
Not necessarily. What you may be experiencing is a ‘FodMap’ reaction, meaning - there are components in wheat and gluten that doesn’t agree with your gut bacteria, leading to increase in symptoms when these foods are consumed. There’s a huge overlap between this and Coeliac and Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) that requires someone with intricate experience and understanding of the gut function and research.
Absorption of B12, Folate, and Iron
Symptoms of deficiencies range from low mood & anxiety, restless legs, hormone imbalance, and breathless when walking up or standing up quickly.
Gluten Ataxia
Clumsy feeling in hands or feet. Hard to balance - need to have a wide leg stance when standing. Poor posture, hunched shoulders. **NOTE that we are not medically trained and you should always seek help from your GP.
Pain, Stiff Neck, Fibromyalgia and Headaches
Fatigue and pain feature here! Sometimes this will run in families, but note there are many other causes also for these symptoms, so see your GP first.
Teeth & Mouth
Poor Toot enamel, usually from young child. Gum Disease possibly more common, but not confirmed.
Constipation
Coeliac is commonly thought of as a ‘loose stool’ condition, but we’ve had many clients where constipation preceeded their GP diagnosis.
